customs and Imports

Now I was speaking to a relative and was told that even though i'm returning back home with my car, I still have to pay duty and tax as if i was importing straight from a dealer. I want some clarification about this and how much the charges are or how they are calculated...

heard that u have to prove you owned the car for some years maybe 2 3yrs and then u will be able to get the duties waved..

35% of value of car for duty.
15% " " " ABST
10% " " " custom service charge

So basically 60% of the value of the car is taxes.
PLUS 6000EC for environmental levy for cars older than 6 years.

These r the taxes you would have to pay, IF u have to pay taxes.

and dont forget the cost of the car includes shipping it here so you paying all those percentages on shipping to. ANNNND once the car is over 3 years and over you start paying environmental levy.

The ABST is added to the compounded value - total after adding duties to CIF.

And if the vehicle is above 2500cc add 7% Luxury Tax when you register with Transport Board.

15 ABST government
10 customs .. still government

Envronmenatl levy ?? still government ??
